AANI’s 46th AGM and National Colloquium in Abuja focused on “State Police and Community Policing” as solutions to Nigeria’s growing security challenges. AANI praised Prof. Omeire’s outstanding academic contributions, extensive publications, pioneering roles in university administration, and his dedication to rural development and social sciences. The association described him as a symbol of integrity, hard work, and humility, while praying for greater achievements, good health, and continued success in his new rank.

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has celebrated Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, CFR, mni, on his 85th birthday, describing him as a symbol of wisdom, cultural pride, and transformational leadership. AANI praised the Obi of Onitsha for his pioneering role as a member of the maiden Senior Executive Course (SEC 1) of the National Institute in 1979, as well as his distinguished international career with Shell�. The Association also commended his impactful reign as the 21st Obi of Onitsha, highlighting his contributions to education, peace, youth development, national unity, and responsible leadership. The event drew top dignitaries, including governors, AANI leaders, and traditional rulers, and featured a ceremonial procession and reception. Dardisu’s appointment reflects his strong record of service, professional excellence, and deep-rooted lineage in Muduru’s traditional leadership. The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has called for an urgent, comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, prioritizing the establishment of state police to address persistent security challenges. This call was the key outcome of AANI’s 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and National Colloquium, which gathered key stakeholders in Abuja under the theme “State Police and Community Policing: Challenges, Options and Opportunities”. DSS Director-General, Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to tackling insecurity, while stressing that trust gaps and societal orientation are crucial factors. The discussions highlighted that the centralized policing system is currently overstretched, under-equipped, and inadequate for handling decentralized, modern security threats. Participants argued that State Policing is necessary for effective law enforcement, better coordination of security outfits, and bridging the gap between security institutions and the community.
